Desalination task force to consider contracts

A task force will weigh two contracts today related to the proposed seawater desalination plant to be shared by Santa Cruz Water Department and the Soquel Creek Water District, whose partnership is known as SCWD2.

The task force will consider a $480,700 contract with an environmental consulting firm to facilitate the permitting process required if the project is approved.

The task force also will consider spending an additional $100,000 on legal services related to the environmental analysis for the project, expected to be done this spring.

The task force will meet at 7 p.m. in the Soquel Creek Water District board room, 5180 Soquel Drive.

Also, Heidi Luckenbach, the SCWD2 desalination program coordinator, and others will speak at a Dec. 8 forum on energy use and greenhouse gas emissions related to the proposed plant. The forum will be 6-8 p.m. at Live Oak Elementary, 1916 Capitola Road, Live Oak.
