Comment Deadline On The Desalination EIR

Whenever the Land Use Report comments on an issue with which the Wittwer & Parkin law firm is involved, on behalf of a client, I identify this involvement, as part of my report. Listeners should be aware that Wittwer & Parkin is currently representing the Community Water Coalition, or CWC, and that the CWC has taken an interest in an array of local water policy issues, specifically including the proposed desalination plant.

I am not going to try to tell you what the CWC thinks about the desalination project. I am, however, going to urge you to make your own views known, whatever they are, as the City and the Soquel Creek Water District undertake a full environmental review of that desalination proposal.

The Draft EIR on the proposed project is online, and thus easily available for review. The deadline for comments on the Draft EIR is Monday, August 12th. Again, I want to encourage listeners to submit their comments, whether those comments are “pro” or “con.”

The power of the California Environmental Quality Act, or CEQA, is that it requires our local government agencies to respond, substantively, to substantive comments made by members of the public. When you testify at a public hearing, the elected officials on the dais probably won’t give you a personal response.
