Soquel Creek Water District to explore groundwater management

Santa Cruz Sentinel, 3/2/14

The Soquel Creek Water District board will continue its series of exploratory discussions on water issues Tuesday with a focus on California groundwater law and midcounty groundwater management. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in Capitola City Council Chamber, 420 Capitola Ave.

The district's sole water supply is an overdrafted groundwater basin that is showing signs of seawater contamination. Beginning in September 2013, the board began dedicating one meeting a month to exploring supply and demand issues, with previous topics including seawater desalination, surface water transfers, recycled water and mandatory rationing.

On Tuesday, attorney Russell McGlothlin will discuss state groundwater, and John Ricker, the county's water resources director, will discuss local groundwater issues. Kim Adamson, general manager of the district, will discuss the district's groundwater management.
