Water group needs priority list

Contributor A.J. Elliott, Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Sentinel 2/12/14

The Santa Cruz Water Supply Advisory Committee needs to accomplish the following seven tasks:

1. Define the water problem to be solved and why. The North Santa Cruz County water problem is different for Santa Cruz city, Scotts Valley, and Soquel Creek Water District.

2. Determine criteria for selecting alternatives that solve the water problem.

3. Select alternatives that may solve the water problem, for further study by technical consultants.

4. Review study reports from technical consultants.

5. Contribute to a summary report that compares alternatives using the selection criteria. In engineering, this is known as a trade study.

6. Get stakeholder (water users, government officials, water department leaders, water commissioners, etc.) buy-in for results of the previous five tasks.

7. Make all reports, studies, backup references, and calculations available on the web, for stakeholders review.
