Setting conservation example

Santa Cruz Sentinel, 1/30/14

It's fine for the cities and county to ask us to cut water usage by 20 percent, but before we do, how about them cutting their use by 20 percent? The parks in the county use a lot of water. Years ago I opposed Blue Ball Park because at that time we had just gone through a drought. The counties and the cities are building new parks. Last year when it was raining, Blue Ball still had sprinklers going. The district wants us to cut our use by 20 percent, then raise the price to offset their losses. What about the $8 million or more the district spent on testing a desalination plant that had already been proven in other parts of the state? That's poor management.
